Inspired by H.G. Wells's beloved story The Country of the Blind, COUNTRY OF BLIND takes place in the Indian Himalayas during the 18th century. Experienced mountaineer Abhimanyu is guiding a group of European climbers up an unexplored mountain when he finds himself in a tight spot. After he makes a mistake and falls down a cliff, his team believes he is dead. He miraculously makes it out alive, only to discover himself in a mysterious valley. There are generations of blind people living in this remote world who have no idea what sight is. The man with vision, Abhimanyu, faces the unforeseen difficulties of being seen as the one with a disability as he makes his way through this peculiar society. The movie explores a wide range of socioeconomic issues via Abhimanyu's symbolic journey, questioning notions of ability and supremacy. This play, which is slated for debut on Friday, October 6, 2023, looks to be a provocative examination of society conventions and ideals.
